Hubert X. Gilroy

Practice Areas
Hubert X. Gilroy has represented individuals, businesses and governmental entities in Carlisle and Central Pennsylvania for more than 30 years. His varied practice encompasses business, real estate, land use, municipal, estate planning, family law and more. His litigation experience includes million dollar personal injury cases, complex land use controversies, constitutional and statutory interpretation disputes, and criminal matters ranging from DUI to Capital Homicide trials.

Mr. Gilroy’s professional accreditations and representations are numerous. He is a Custody Conciliator in Cumberland County, where he employs dispute resolution and advocacy skills in counseling domestic clients. A Certified Mediator for the Federal Middle District Court, he is routinely retained to resolve disputes ranging from major trucking accidents to commercial controversies. He is also a Licensed Title Agent and has handled multimillion dollar commercial transactions to residential home closings. Additionally, he counsels clients on business formation, estate planning and estate administration.

Professional Activities
Mr. Gilroy is a member of the Board of Counselors of The Dickinson School of Law of the Pennsylvania State University and is an appointed member of The Dickinson Law Association. An adjunct professor at Dickinson-Penn State, Mr. Gilroy has for 12 years coached the National Trial Moot Court Team which boasts two Regional Championships. He is the first-ever recipient (2009) of the Cumberland County Bar Association’s “Stuart Award,” presented in recognition of his outstanding dedication and devotion to the Cumberland County region and community. In 2006, Mr. Gilroy received the Molly Pitcher Award and was recognized as Citizen of the Year for the Carlisle area by the Carlisle Exchange Club. He is a former Board member and President of the Carlisle Family YMCA, a former member of the Cumberland County DUI Advisory Board, and was the 2002 recipient of the Norman Cohn Hope Award from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Central Pennsylvania Chapter.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court appointed Mr. Gilroy to serve six years on the Pennsylvania Interest on Lawyers Trust Account (IOLTA) Board.
Chairman of the Continuing Legal Education Committee of the Cumberland County Bar Association, Mr. Gilroy has lectured fellow lawyers on land use, litigation, domestic and estate planning issues. One of the founding members of Historic Carlisle, Inc., Hubert has presented lectures at the Cumberland County Historic Society on the Irish in early Carlisle and the Irish Brigade in the Civil War. Recently, the General Alumni Association of the Dickinson School of Law-Penn State University honored Mr. Gilroy with a Distinguished Service Award.

He is a member of the Pennsylvania and Cumberland County Bar Associations, and the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association. He is admitted to practice to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, United States Supreme Court, United States Tax Court, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.

Education
Mr. Gilroy is a cum laude graduate of the University of Scranton, where he earned a B.S. in Sociology in 1976. He earned a J.D. from the Dickinson School of Law in 1979.
